No trouble getting back to work for the Revenue Commissioners detector dog Sam who has already earned himself a bonus and it’s only the first Monday of 2020, helping Revenue officers at Portlaoise Mail Centre seize illegal drugs worth €194,000.

Following routine profiling, approximately 9.1kgs of herbal cannabis was discovered in 2 parcels originating from the United States.

The packages, declared as ‘computer parts’, were destined for addresses in North Dublin.

A further 600 grams of herbal cannabis was found concealed in a parcel with the assistance of Revenue Detector Dog Sam.

The parcel, originating from Spain, was destined for an address in Belfast.

Investigations are ongoing with a view to prosecution.

These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting drug smuggling.
